Preston Whole House Remodel

“Modern Living, Timeless Style—Every Detail Reimagined.”

A Brief Overview

This whole-house renovation transformed a traditional, outdated layout into a fresh, functional space perfectly suited for modern living. The homeowners wanted a home that could comfortably host weekend guests, as well as grown children and their families during special occasions. The plan centered on a complete kitchen remodel with contemporary finishes and an adjoining scullery for extra prep and storage space. A spacious mudroom was added, and the old powder room—once awkwardly located between the kitchen and dining areas—was relocated for improved privacy. Another major goal was upgrading the laundry from a cramped hallway closet into a fully functional, inviting room. By reconfiguring the upstairs layout and sacrificing one original bedroom, we created both this large laundry space and a walk-in primary closet tailored to the homeowners’ needs. The project also included renovating two existing bathrooms, adding two new ones, and refreshing the main living areas to improve flow, comfort, and style throughout the home.

Challenge

Executing the client’s vision required careful coordination while the client remained living on the third floor. Key challenges included relocating the electrical meter, shifting the laundry room down the hallway, and constructing a new ensuite bathroom above the garage bonus room. Maintaining uninterrupted utilities and mechanical systems throughout the renovation demanded strategic planning, precise execution, and minimal disruption to daily life.

Solution

Each upstairs guest bedroom now features its own bathroom and generous closet space, making the home ideal for grown children and their families to visit grandma and grandpa in comfort. The remodel includes a spacious laundry room, a large primary closet, an open kitchen with an adjoining scullery, a private powder room, and a mudroom that works well for many purposes. The exterior makeover completely transformed the home’s curb appeal — it now looks like an entirely different house.

Design

  • Addition behind the garage to expand livable space
  • Large mudroom with built-in storage, bench, desk, and sink for everyday organization
  • Relocated powder room—previously next to the kitchen—into the new addition for privacy
  • Custom modern kitchen with adjoining scullery for prep, storage, and cleanup
  • Reconfigured upstairs to create:
    • Large laundry room from former hallway space
    • Expansive primary closet from a repurposed bedroom
    • Two guest bedrooms, each with private ensuite bath and generous closet space
  • Added new bathroom to the bonus room, converting it into a comfortable ensuite
  • Exterior redesign with updated siding, trim, and architectural details for dramatically improved curb appeal

Build

  • Homeowners remained living on the third floor during construction
  • Relocated electrical meter and updated mechanical systems while keeping services active
  • Seamless integration of the new addition with matching rooflines and finishes
  • Custom cabinetry in the kitchen, scullery, mudroom, and primary closet
  • High-quality tile work in all bathrooms
  • Precision finish carpentry throughout
  • Change order during construction to upgrade the living room fireplace wall with floating shelves, new stone surround, and a custom mantel

Love it!

The homeowners now enjoy sweeping backyard views from the kitchen sink, framed by abundant natural light from expansive multi-slide doors. They love the spacious mudroom that keeps daily life organized and the open connection between the kitchen and living room, making it perfect for entertaining. The hardwood floors bring warmth to every space, and the large upstairs laundry room—a dream they had for years—adds everyday convenience. The expansive primary closet keeps everything neatly stored, and the refreshed exterior, with painted brick and a bold new wood front door, has completely transformed the home’s curb appeal.

As they put it, “Feels like we moved into a new home.”
